Sexuality is layered and complex. It is also often all but ignored in the clinical sphere. In this highly interactive presentation, Jenn Kennedy, PhD, LMFT will discuss the most common issues that arise in the sexual realm and offer insight about how to discuss sex and intimacy with female clients. Using the Biopsychorelational model, Dr. Kennedy will describe how various factors influence client's confidence, performance and interpersonal strategies to get their sexual needs met. She will also address unique diversity issues that arise for LGBT women around their sexuality.

- Consider what factors influence female sexuality
- Identify unique factors that affect lesbian/queer sexuality
- Briefly discuss theories or clinical tools and resources helpful in addressing sexual issues

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess 4 female sexual presenting issues

  • Identify 3-4 factors that influence female sexuality

  • Identify unique factors affecting lesbian/queer sexuality and 2-3 theories to address them

This course meets the qualifications for 2.0 hrs of continuing education (CE) credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

About the Instructor

Jenn Kennedy, PhD, LMFT earned a PhD in Clinical Sexology and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She is also a Certified Sex Therapist and Sex Addiction Therapist based in Santa Barbara, CA. In her private practice, Jenn sees couples and individuals in the areas of relationships, sex, addiction and LGBT. She currently teaches in the graduate school at Antioch University Santa Barbara.
