When discussing the treatment process for substance use addiction including dual-diagnosis, the focus is often on the individual who is suffering from addiction. However, it is important to understand how the family can play a part in the recovery process. Additionally, the family may experience their own form of recovery because of experiences they’ve had with their loved one suffering from addiction. Understanding how family can support their loved one while also attending to their own needs, by learning how to set boundaries and accessing resources, can impact efficacy of treatment.

Please note: This presentation is designed for clinicians who may have limited experience working with addiction and the dynamics that are involved when taking the family into consideration.
